Stay tuned for the next salon!

I want to join!

HERE ARE VIDEO LINKS TO SALON OPERA TALKS

During 2020-2021, the METropolitan Opera in NY streamed a different opera every evening for free.

Since I had at the time been in the orchestra for 33 years, I thought it might be fun to learn more  - the plots, the composers and the times they lived in.

These videos are the result of this effort.  One day I might do more!

Les Dialogues des Carmélites - Francis Poulenc

An in-depth discussion about the opera based on the true story of sixteen nuns who were sent to the guillotine in 1794

Il Trittico - Giacomo Puccini

The last complete work completed by the Italian master

Also includes his only comedy!

Rusalka - Antonin Dvorak

The little mermaid of Prague

Der Rosenkavalier - Richard Strauss

Program notes and miscellany about one of the most beautiful operas and complex composers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Don Giovanni - W.A. Mozart

Mozart's timeless tale of bad male behavior

Turandot - Giacomo Puccini

The mythic epic of Puccini's last work

Eugene Onegin - Pyotr Tchaikovsky

The tragic setting of Pushkin's masterpiece

Hänsel und Gretel - Engelbert Humperdinck

A masterful rendition of the fairytale brought to us by the Brothers Grimm

La Fille du Régiment - Gaetano Donizetti

High C's in the Austrian Alps!

Werther - Jules Massenet

An exploration of nineteenth century poetic unrequited love and tragedy

Falstaff - Giuseppe Verdi

An Italian treatment of the Merry Wives of Windsor by the master of Italian opera.
